To help you pursue a Master of Fine Arts degree online, Miami International University of Art & Design participates in federal and other financial aid programs. Financial aid is divided into three general categories:
Federal Aid
Federal aid benefits are considered "need-based" aid, determined by a combination of criteria for eligibility and dependency status.
Gift Aid
These are grants, scholarships and other benefits that do not have to be repaid.
- Most grants are based on financial need, as determined by a federal formula, and are given by federal or state governments.
- Most scholarships are based on criteria such as grades or affiliations, and may also include a financial-need component.
- Most benefits are based on a combination of criteria.
Types of Gift Aid: Federal Pell Grant, Federal SEOG (Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant), Art Institutes Scholarships, Other Scholarships, Tax Benefits, Vocational Rehabilitation and Veterans' Benefits.
Loans
Loans must be repaid - although repayment can usually be delayed until several months after the student leaves school. Some loans, such as Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Perkins Loans, are granted to the student and paid to the school directly on the behalf of the student. Others, such as the Federal PLUS Loans, if granted to a parent, are also paid directly to the school on the student's behalf. Some are based on the student's financial need, some require a credit check, and others are available regardless of income. There are also alternative-education loans, given by private lenders to students, which may or may not require a co-signer.
Types of Loans: Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan, Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, Federal PLUS Loan (Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students), Federal Perkins Loan, Creative Education Loan, Home Equity Loan and International Student Loan Program.
