Admissions Requirements
When you apply to the online Master of Fine Arts program at Miami International University of Art & Design, you must submit:
- A signed enrollment application
- An official transcript indicating the completion of a bachelor's degree in the discipline with an overall minimum 3.0 grade point average
- A portfolio of your work
- Computer Animation applicants - a portfolio consisting of a demo reel and a minimum of 15 examples of life drawings as a self-contained PowerPoint presentation (JPEG or PDF). Additional work may also be submitted in this same format – illustrations, composites, character sheets, rendered stills, etc.
- Graphic Design applicants - a portfolio consisting of 20 digital images (JPEG or PDF) as a PowerPoint presentation. showing examples of their work. Work must show evidence of layout, typography, corporate identity and branding, advertising or marketing campaigns, illustration and/or publication design.
- Three letters of recommendation. Letters should comment on the applicant’s character, creativity, motivation, ability to accept criticism, etc. At least one letter should be from a previous instructor if possible.
- A formal Letter of Intent indicating why you have chosen advanced study in either Graphic Design or Computer Animation and what goals you hope to achieve as a result of obtaining the degree. Applicants should also indicate the anticipated focus of their research and artistic exploration.
- For all graduate level degree programs the minimum written TOEFL score required is 550, 213 on the computer TOEFL, or 79-80 on TOEFL Internet (iBT).
- All students entering an MFA program must have completed a minimum of at least two art history courses including two levels of art survey (six credit hours).
